Member of the United States House of Representatives, Ilhan Omar, said that she feared for her safety and that of her family after threats were sent to her.
Ilhan, speaking to NBC News in the United States, noted that she felt that her life might be in danger after she received threats to shut her down for her statements about the tension in Gaza between Palestine and Israel. ill.
She went on to say that Muslims in the United States are feeling this at a level that has not been seen since the days of the 9/11 attack.
Ilhan condemned the attack by Hamas but she has been unreservedly critical of Israel’s policy towards Palestine and Washington’s support for Tel Aviv.
Among the voice messages Ilhan shared with NBC were death threats, insults and calling her a ‘Muslim terrorist’. Also loved by her family.
In her statement, she said she and other Muslims in the United States have been victims of “indiscriminate slander and propaganda that she says has created an environment in which the threat has increased.
“She directly endangered my life and that of my family, and the horrific insults she inflicted on my co-workers also endangers millions of Muslim Americans.” Ilhan Omar said.
She accused far-right MPs of using dangerous language that could create hatred and said that the leaders of the upper house remain silent when their party presents these toxic attacks and refuse to hold the extremists accountable in their ranks.
Since she took office, Ilhan Omar has been receiving death threats.
“This is real, I’m afraid for my children, and I told them to be careful because you never know what could happen,” she added.
Ilhan and other Muslim members of Congress have faced official criticism from their own party and Jewish leaders.
The White House called Hamas’s attack on Israel a satanic act that killed innocent people.
Sen. John Fetterman of the United States House of Representatives said on Wednesday that it is regrettable that members of Congress took the words of Hamas after Rashida Talib of the House of Representatives repeated that Israel was behind the attack on the hospital in Gaza.
Hafik Ilhan Omar said that the threats have been increasing in the past ten days. Some of the voices sent to her office show strong panic.
The minority Muslim members of Congress have faced threats for a long time.
Last summer, a Florida man who was found to have threatened Ilhan and other lawmakers with death was sentenced to three years in prison and seven thousand dollars in fines.
Another man was also sentenced to one year in prison in New York who openly threatened to kill Omar.
On the other hand, human rights organizations have followed up on the increasing number of actions targeting Muslims and American Jews who appear to be behind the conflict in the Middle East.
The threat is particularly felt by Muslims, which has increased after a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy was killed outside of Chicago.
The US authorities have described the act as anti-Islamic, as a result of what is happening in Gaza.
